Food Security, Quality and Compliance

Columbian is committed to providing warehousing and transportation services that consistently meet and exceed our customer's expectations. These commitments are met by designing processes, training associates and operating our facilities so that product safety and customer satisfaction are given the highest priority.

Recognizing that a significant portion of the consuming public has food allergies, food intolerance, or other special dietary needs, Columbian has designed programs and procedures around the needs of these special interest groups. Our shipping, storage, cleaning and labeling practices are designed to keep our customers products safe, wholesome and acceptable for all individuals.

Columbian is in compliance with the FDA, and the Preparedness and Response Act of 2002 (the Bioterrorism Act) in regards to food security. They have implemented standard operating procedures (SOPs) that address any reasonable issue that may pose harm to consumers. This policy, along with our Security Statement and our Safety and Health Statement, document our commitment to food safety.

The American Institute of Baking (AIB) conducts an annual comprehensive audit of each of our facilities. Topics audited are:

  • Adequacy of Food Safety Program
  • Pest Control
  • Operational Methods and Personnel Practices
  • Maintenance for Food Safety
  • Cleaning Practices

Columbian has consistently scored Superior ratings over the last several years.

All food grade facilities within Columbian have integrated pest management services contracted through Ecolab. These services are conducted on a weekly basis and can be tailored to meet your specific needs.

Columbian utilizes Continuous Improvement Software (CIS) to maintain a high level of quality. This is a web based integrated solution that provides consistent resolutions to elements of managing our quality system. The coordination of the CIS program, along with the Corporate Quality Manual are used as the basis for Standard Operating Procedures and Nonconformity circumstances.
